题目：How does AI affect employment: Insights from a Meta-analysis

摘要：

The impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on employment remains a subject of intense theoretical debate and conflicting empirical evidence. To resolve these discrepancies, this study conducts a quantitative meta-analysis of 510 estimates derived from 26 recent primary studies. Our results indicate that the aggregate effect of AI on employment is positive but quantitatively weak, with extensive linear and nonlinear diagnostic tests revealing negligible publication bias. However, Bayesian Model Averaging (BMA) uncovers substantial heterogeneity underlying this average effect. We find that AI generates robust positive employment effects in non-developed economies, the service sector, and high-skill occupations, challenging the narrative of widespread technological displacement. Furthermore, the magnitude of the estimated effect varies systematically with the level of aggregation, being most pronounced at the country level compared to micro-level units. These findings suggest that AI acts primarily as a driver of structural transformation and reallocation rather than net labor substitution, with outcomes heavily contingent on economic development stages and sectoral contexts.
